NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is an annual project in which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April.
NaPoWriMo, founded in 2003, when poet Maureen Thorson decided to take up the challenge. She modeled this after NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. Ms. Thorson has challenged other poets, like herself, to join in on the fun. And since it exists, the participants in NaPoWriMo have grown every year, and many writers’ organizations, local, national and even International, have joined NaPoWriMo activities.
I’m not participating this year. However, I love to write poetry and plan to add a few poems throughout the month to celebrate. I hope you enjoy my poetry.
Shirts and skins on the battlefield
Sweat shiny luster
Muscle tensely bulging
Agile resilient angels
Adam in his birth
male sex soaring
In the trenches,
fighting for position
yelling, to again advantage
as war rages on concrete havens
Young bulls head butting, primal
the prize. Trash talking
Young Lions roaring, fallen prey avoiding
Man, in his natural element
Warriors on display
