The night was cold as the rain came down in sheets. Yet, I couldn’t feel anything but the pain in my heart.  The cloud of breath rushed from my mouth to her’s willing life to return, but it was useless, she was dead.

On my knees in the middle of nowhere with no cover wasn’t the best place to be, but I wouldn’t leave her alone. Number 7, was the only female of our group and last one of our kind. We came here to help both species. They should have celebrated our arrival instead they feared us.

Two shots rang out in the night. One caught me in the shoulder the other hit Seven in the chest.   Had they known, if only they’d listened. Seven was their only hope of survival, these primitive earthlings had.  Now both species were doomed.
